a. Gateway of India

The Gateway of India is designed majestically, and it was erected in 1924 majestically facing the Arabian Sea. It was constructed in honor of a royal couple — King George V and Queen Mary to be precise — to India. The basalt arch with motifs of latticework as well as Indo-Saracenic features depicts maritime prominence and solidity of the city.

b. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Mumbai Central station also known as CST)

Locally known as Victoria Terminus, CST is a fine example of Victorian Gothic architecture at its best. Stevens with name of Frederick William Stevens has designed it and it was constructed in the year 1888. This architectural design, the dome, pointed arches and turrets give a sense of opulence. CST is still one of the major Railway Stations besides the heart icons of Mumbai reflects the architecture of visionary of Mumbai.

c. Taj Mahal Palace Hotel

The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel was built in 1903 and with its Moorish, Oriental and Florentine influences is more luxurious. Its domes, balconies and interiors stand as ornaments and this has housed, the sovereigns, leaders, artistes and celebrities. The hotel has thus become a sign of the spirit of cosmopolitan Mumbai even up to today.

2. Architectural Marvels

Mumbai homes some of the greatest architectural masterpieces that point to a new dimension in urban dwellings. Let’s explore further:

a. Kanchenjunga Apartments

It has been developed by the marquee architect namely, Ar. According to the principles of modernist architecture, the building of the Indian architect Charles Correa is an example of the Kanchenjunga Apartments. These two are two high-rise apartment buildings that were completed in 1983, and they are characterized by function, light, and green. Terraced arrangement of the building also provides great vantage points of the city hence making it an architectural delight.

b. Bombay Stock Exchange (Phiroze Jeejeebhoy Towers)

BSE is housed in the building which was constructed in 1980 and gives the appearance of a headquarters of a global organization. This gives it a creative look along the exterior with a glass façade that is in the form of a lattice along with the large central atrium that is characteristic of Chennai which is India’s financial capital. They are in the tower, where stock exchange is also located and it symbolically proves Mumbai as economical capital of India.

c. Oberoi Trident Towers

These were constructed in 1973 and they are the Oberoi Trident Towers which fall under Mumbai’s Marine Drive. The geometrical facade is rather simple and contains bands of glass and bands of concrete in various sequences which reflect the spirit of modernity. The towers contain and / or accommodate prestigious hotels; the buildings symbolise life right on the water.

a. Bandra-Worli Sea Link

Finished in the year 2009, this cable-stayed bridge links Bandra and Worli. Today it symbolizes progress of Mumbai and it’s engineering brilliance with the beauty it has. Through this transportation mode, there is cutting down on the time it takes to travel and the improvement of connection.

b. Lodha World One

Rising above Lower Parel, Lodha world one is one of India’s tallest residential building to be constructed till date. It offers distinctive modern style with energy saving solutions and all the modern comforts one would expect from living in the city. The tower as a structure represents Mumbai’s desire and ability to stand up and thrive.

Altogether, it can be stated that the architectural picture of Mumbai is not only an unbroken chronicle of successive building styles but also the story of constant progress and the desire to improve. No matter if the visitor chose to walk through the historical testifying buildings or took a look at stunning modern constructions turned into the skyliners — the city opens its mystery.
