For Dubai its evolution comes as a small fishing village on the Western coast of the Arabian Gulf. The first way was due to the initial capital from the discovery of oil in the 1960s to oil production. It should be note that, although it is the strategic vision to massively invest in infrastructure that paved for the change.

Infrastructure: Building the Foundations

Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum knew the importance of the infrastructure to promote the free trade in Dubai and thus he undertook his biggest task of setting up vast infrastructure. The development of Jebel Ali Port in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as the Dubai International Airport, was able to break barriers of international operations and trade, thus fueling growth.

Economic Diversification: Beyond Oil:

Realizing that the supplies of oil, the main resource that initially propelled the country’s economy, were limited, Dubai began to develop other industries such as tourism, aircraft industry, construction, and banking. Massive projects such as Burj Al Arab and palm jumeirah are few such examples of its overture and unique selling proposition to the world.

Becoming a Global Destination:

With this strategic position held, Dubai effectively served as a regional and international commercial and tourism hub. The city continued staging international competitions and coined feet zones to support industries; all this enhanced the diversification of its economy and the ratification of the city as a global one.

Overcoming Challenges:

However, due to the above-mentioned factors, Dubai holds its favorable positions even during crises like the financial crisis of 2008, and as a part of the development process, Dubai has implemented progressive policies that have helped the emirate to maintain its growth path.

Today’s Dubai: A Model City.

The cornerstone of a Model City will be a perfect environment for people, ensuring that the citizens get a high quality of life and comfortable living conditions.

The city of Dubai today is a perfect example of what motivated thinking and proper planning could bring. Indeed, it has been dubbed the skyline city due to its tall buildings, a city of the rich and famous, and an epitome of a new age Middle Eastern city.

Therefore, Dubai’s story is one of using innovation and ambition to change and it is a success model for other cities globally.
